My name is Melissa Ross, I am a mother, teacher, small business owner and children's literature aficionada. One of my fondest memories of childhood was going to the library and checking out so many books, that I could barely see over the tall stack on the way to the car. Those big canvas bags would have come in handy back then. Well now I have my fair share of big canvas bags. There is the one with 23 handprints from the students of my first, first grade class. Then the small one that I often throw my own book and a towel in, for the pool or beach. My children each have their own canvas bags that always get filled with books from our family library before a vacation. There is the "need to get returned to the library bag" in the canvas bag with puffy paint faces, that my daughter's class made for me, for being a room mother. Oh yes, our black lab Kayla has a canvas bag, too. It has paw prints on it. It is never filled with books, just dog stuff, but if and when it does get filled with books for the dog, you can bet you will read about it in a children's book written by yours truly.
This book bag is a compilation of some of my favorite books for children, some activities that are fun to stretch the literature experience, and some suggestions for appropriate age ranges. I will continually be adding to the Chasing Butterflies Book Bag. There are just so many great books to tell you about. Oh, Chasing Butterflies is my small business. We sell fine children's books, make gift arrangements of books, and encourage people to give the gift of literature. Books and reading are magical. They are among the greatest gifts you can give a child. Whether you take them to your local library to gather a large stack of their own, or build their own personal library, sharing the magic of children's literature is a true gift.
